Driving a tank through a building to win a fight might seem like overkill, but that’s what winning a war is all about. Set primarily in Italy and North Africa, there is a pleasant amount of color and vibrancy to the world and, the best bit, it has a very destructible environment. It’s all very engaging and pleasant to look at. Everything from the characters movements and the way they slide into cover or sprint at the enemy. The explosions look good, and every moving piece from infantry to artillery all look brilliant. I can’t really find anything to complain about. That’s a level of engagement that’s tough to find. Before I knew it, I had a team that I trusted to take care of the most important missions, and it was actually devastating when one of them died. It also allows you to form a strange bond with a squad that consistently performs well. There is a stunning amount of gameplay with the ability to level up certain soldiers and platoons, giving the game a fluidity that lets to try something new each time you play. There is a lot to this title that you could see in games like Total War, Age of Empires or even They Are billions, but they take the strongest parts from each without overwhelming you with mechanics to give you a rounded and thoroughly enjoyable experience. I’ll be the first to admit that this is not a revolution for the genre, but rather, it’s the genres natural evolution. The developers have gone to a lot of effort to give you a rounded experience in regards to the things that occur in the battlefields of WWII. You have a whole list of mission types, from conquests and quick battles all the way down to special missions like assassination missions and such. You take absolute control of the entire force and, by using superior tactics and firepower, turn the tide of the war.
This isn’t a simple game where you control a single platoon, you control them all. This game is absolutely fantastic and if you love a strategy war game, you would be committing a sin to ignore this one. Fight in huge maps all over the world and get a taste for some real military action as you desperately try to win a war like no other. Jump into this World War II real-time strategy game that pushes the envelope and gives players an incredible amount of control over the battlefield.
